Site at NCM

The site for the Cardboard Lounge, is the current members lounge (open to all) on the entry level of the New Children's Museum. It is away from the main exhibition space and next to the small cafe. A place where parents can get a time out, and watch the kids play.

The current array of furniture offers no cohesive design plan. Part of the SDSU design teams challenge is create a much stronger and unified plan, that still allows for flexibility of use and open interpretation.

 South storage wall of lounge

The cafe is behind this wall, currently a set of storage shelves . The teams will consider how this may come into play as an integral part of the Cardboard Lounge design

Currently a graphic for an old fund raising program. A huge design opportunity!

A plan view of the site. One of the parameters is to keep the lounge seating with in the carpeted area that is 18' x 22'. The cardboard sheets donated by the Museum are 5' x 10'.
In order to minimize waste, we will be working in three modules that easily generate from a 5 x10.  These are: 5' x 5', 2'-6" x 5" and 2'-6" x 2'-6". The above plan is just one potential planning layout.
